I use this everyday at least twice a day. It is a sweet, white minty paste. I don't find it to be markedly gritty; it is more like a thick cream. I hate gels and favor their creamy counterparts. The tube I have has a net. wt. of 4.0 oz. (113 g). It's lasting a good amount of time. I bought it a while ago, and it hasn't run out too quickly.
I'm currently using the whitening version of Total, but I've also just used the regular, plain Total without advanced whitening and liked it just as much.
I never notice much whitening with things like toothpaste or gum. The only time I've noticed was when I used a whitening kit (Press and Seal Crest Strips). In other words, I need to see a HUGE drastic difference to see when something is working. I drink tons and tons of tea, and my teeth look pretty white. I assume that it is keeping them that way.
What matters to me most is that the toothpaste is keeping my teeth and gums healthy. This has sodium fluoride 0.24% (0.14% w/v fluoride ion) which is anti-cavity. It also has triclosan 0.30% which is anti-gingivitis. I like to think with those ingredients this is protecting my teeth for years to come.
