My wife and I planned on taking our son to Maine for a weekend trip. My wife had been to Wells, ME before and a friend and her stayed at a hotel which she told me she liked alot. My wife mentioned that the owner had taken her and a friend downtown and shown them around which I thought was quite nice.
I started to poke around on the internet, looking for reviews of Ne'r Beach Motel. What I found on sites like Tripadvisor were some reviews that raised a red flag for me. Many complained that the owners were nasty, rude, among other things.
I confirmed with my wife and she stated that she had not had any of those problems.
We ended up getting a room with a queen sized bed, and the room costs us approximately $100 a night, which isn't so bad considering the area we were in.
Ne'r Beach motel had renovated many of thier rooms and added a pool and wi-fi internet access since my wife last stayed there. Some of the amenities include, AC in the room, refrigerators, the heated pool, outdoor gas grills and lobster pots, ice machine, vending, close to moody beach (approx mile or so), and a plus is that pets are welcome as well!
Upon check in we were met by one of the owners who couldn't be nicer. He handed a play ball toy for my son to have and I thought that was a nice gesture! We then checked in, paid, and went off to our room. When I opened the door I was hit with a large musty smell that NEVER went away. I thought this odd since these rooms had been "refurbished". The room was not huge but as large as I expected, with a TV, fridge and AC, and coffee pot. The bathroom was decent and large enough for what we needed.
Overall our stay was pleasant, but that musty smell never went away and bothered me until the day we left. Lucky we only stayed for a couple of days. I don't think I would have stayed there a week or more.
They also offer larger suites, and hope those don't have the same musty smell to them. The hotel is decent but I think we would stay somewhere else the next time we are in the Wells area.
