Neutrogena Build-a-Tan Face with SPF 15 is a sunless tanning lotion made specifically for the facial area. It is advertised as a product that allows you to slowly build your tan to the desired deepness through repeated applications.
I am very fair skinned, so the idea that I could gradually add a healthy glow using this product really appealed to me. Controlling the level of my tan is very important, because I do not want an unnaturally dark face when my skin is naturally so fair. In addition, Neutrogena Build-a-Tan Face is labeled as moisturizing, and the directions on the back of the tube instruct the user to use in place of a regular daily moisturizer.
It is important to note that prior to applying any self-tanning product, one must exfoliate in order to remove any dry or flaky patches of skin. I exfoliated before using Neutrogena Build-a-Tan Face.
Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in Neutrogena Build-a-Tan Face, even though I applied this product carefully, following all instructions. After just two light applications over a two day period of time, I had very uneven and splotchy coloring. The areas along the top of my forehead and down the sides of my face toward my jaw line have an orange cast, while the area on my cheeks is just as pale as it was before using this product. In addition, the skin on my face was not moisturized by this product. After using it for two days, my face feels dry and tight.
I can not recommend the use of Neutrogena Build-a-Tan face. While those with a darker natural complexion may have better luck with this product, I would advise fair skinned individuals to avoid using it.
