The book Nicolae is the third installment in the Left Behind Series, written by well-know Christian authors Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins.
The entire Left Behind series is a Christian-based series that tells the story of the End Times, as told in the Bible's Revelation. The talent of these two authors is phenomenal though; there is an obvious Christian base to the series, but the storylines are about people and events that you could easily read in any newspaper headlines tomorrow. The books can be read individually, but in my opinion, they are much better when read in the intended order, because the flow of the characters actions is not interrupted.
This books follows the same small group of characters that were introduced in the Left Behind book, and that formed the Tribulation Force in the same-named second book. The most important character in this book, though, is Nicolae Carpathia, whom the book is named after. The front cover of the book describes that Nicolae will be about "the Rise of the AntiChrist." Carpathia is a wonderfully developed character- he is a Romanian politician who begins to rise as a leader among European countries after the chaotic events of the past few months. Most people are seeing him as a saviour, but most view him as evil. He is wicked, and a vile character, and that is what I as the reader love about him! He is very complex, and the writers get all the credit here- the twists and turns that this action-packed book keep the reader on their proverbial toes.
The book Nicolae definitely has a different tone than the first 2 Left Behind books; this one is much darker in nature, with more violence and deception being introduced. There are also a lot of political issues in Nicolae, which I loved, but some may find that a bit tedious. All in all, another great installment of a great series!
