I have two insurance policies and two investment portfolios with Philam. I guess it is safe to say that I trust this company to manage my finances. Anyway, the latest investment that I got with them was the GSIS Kinabukasan Fund. It is a balanced fund that is mostly invested in stocks and some of it in bonds so that the fall of the stocks may be cushioned. However, with the global economic crunch, not even some investment in bonds helped.

This investment is like investing in the stock market, except that I am freed with the bondage of checking my stocks everyday because the financial planners of Philam do that. That is what I pay them for. I like this kind of investment because of its flexibility. You can put in money anytime, but just make sure that you get the most out of your investment by placing money while the value is low. The problem however is when there is a dive in the stock market. Many people panicked and withdrew their money and lost some of it. In my case, I just let it be. I waited for the stock market to get back up again and now I am already in the positive.

So I believe this kind of investment is not for the faint-hearted for every little drop in the market would make one squirm or worse, panic. Those who panicked lost a lot of money. But honestly, after this, when I get a good value for my money, I will already withdraw it and invest it in bonds for bonds perform better, albeit slow. I mean the balanced fund is good when you are able to put in money when the value is very low and withdraw it when the value is very high. That means you get a lot for your money. The problem comes in when the opposite happens, then you lose a lot of money.

This is a good kind of investment if you have a lot of money to spare and play with. But this is not for those that this is their only money left as they would easily get nervous and in the end risk losing a lot of money. Because really as the name suggests, GSIS Kinabukasan Fund literally means GSIS "Future" Fund. It is for the future because in the long run, the value of the money will really increase.
