My dachshunds love to chew, and they manage to destroy whatever toys I give them. No matter what I would buy, within 15 minutes it would be in a condition where I would have to take it away from them. So I asked my vet what would be a good toy for them to have, and he recommended Nylabone chew bones.
When I went to Petsmart, I purchased two in different sizes, the smaller was $5.29 and the larger (wolf size) was $7.49. So far my dogs seem to really love these toys. They are very hard and seem to be made of pretty sturdy nylon. The dogs have managed to make marks in the bones and raised some "bristles", as the company calls them, but they have not managed to rip apart these bones...yet. I supervise the dogs when they chew on them, and I think they really like them. Time will tell how durable these bones really are, but they seem to be a lot tougher than anything else I've bought.
These bones are for powerful chewers, and the ones I bought are chicken flavored. I believe they come in other flavors as well. The bones are supposed to help control tartar and are nontoxic, but they are not meant to be eaten, that's why I still supervise the dogs when they are chewing on them.
I will see how these bones fare as time passes. So far I like them and the dogs seem to as well.
