The Oakley ICON backpack 3.0 is an improved version of its predecessors, and boasts a sleeker design along with various new age additions, such as a velcro holder for your phone and a subtle compartment for your mp3. The bag comes in a few Camouflage patterns and red white or silver. It has a unique design that sets itself apart from most other backpacks being the mesh gap between the two main storage areas and the unique (and quite cool) clips to expose the bag. The aesthetic of the bag makes it feel durable and riugged, and it is, with quite thick fabric and excellent stitching. There are making extra compartments and making use of them is half the fun of having this bag.
There are a few criticisms though about the bag. Firstly, it can only carry a sizeable amount of items until it starts bulging out of your back. Also, the advertised 15" laptop pocket with side access can barely fit a 15" laptop, and I cannot for the life of me get my Dell Studio 15 through the side "quick access zip". Also there may be a tiny portion of space wasted with the laptop pocket as it sits a centimetre above the bottom of the bag, no doubt to alleviate any dropping of the bag. The straps for the arms and tightening of the bag tends to leave flappy bits everywhere when walking without the waist clip or chest clip on. The only alternative i have seen to aid this problem is squaring them away with electrical tape or wrapping and tyhing them arount he arm straps.
Overall, this bag is different to almost all other backpacks out on the market, and if you go out into the bush regularly, or go jogging or cycling, this is a perfect bag for you. If you are a student and require a bag, this is still a good choice, as I am sure it will last for more than a few years due to its robust design.
