My baby received this glow seahorse for Christmas this year and we all love it! She is only 5 weeks old right now but already loves to look at when she's in her crib. It's hard to buy a gift for a baby so young, but this was the perfect thing for her!
This seahorse is like the glowbugs that I remember from when I was little. It is a soft stuffed animal with a soft plastic belly. The belly is the part that lights up and sound comes out from the back of the head area. The inner parts are well contained in the head by an opening that velcros shut. I really like the fact that it has an on and off switch so it won't go off when I don't want it to or during traveling. I also like the fact that the battery case is closed with a screw so my baby won't be able to get the batteries out once she discovers how to open the velcro.
The glow of the light comes on and turns off gradually so it does not flash and hurt my baby's eyes. It is bright enough to serve as a night light in her crib, but not so bright that it would keep her awake. It glows a yellow color which seems to be very soothing to her.
The seahorse plays music for about 5 minutes with the glow before it automatically shuts off. My baby falls asleep in that time. Later, when she's older, she will be able to push the belly again if she wants it to play more. It plays 8 different songs and ocean sounds.
I love the color of this animal and I'm sure she will too once she learns to focus better on colors and shapes. It is about half as long as her right now, so it will be perfect for her to hug once she starts sleeping with stuffed animals. For now, I just lay it where she can see it in her crib and play it while she falls asleep, then I move it to a safe spot when it turns off.
