Directly south of Cape Hatteras North Carolina, the island ends. A small gap of ocean leads to another island. This island is named Ocracoke Island and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited n my life.
Ocracoke Island is as underdeveloped as any of the North Carolina islands. This is probably due to the fact that you can only reach the island by ferry.
The ferry ride to Ocracoke Island was the first I had ever taken. The ferry transports both cars and people. Forty-five minutes of pleasure and beauty, it was one of the best times of my life.
After reaching Ocracoke Island, you will drive for nearly 20-30 minutes before actually hitting civilization. Once you do, though, the world changes. This town is geared toward tourists, but thanks to its secluded nature, it is never too overcrowded.
Local attractions include a great candy shop, themed restaurants and even a small eatery that offers you a boat trip to catch your own dinner. (The restaurant will cook your catch).
Ocracoke Island is a perfect vacation getaway.
