Okami is truly a unique and beautifully crafted video game for the Playstation 2. The premise is that you are a god (Amaterasu), brought out of sleep to combat forces of darkness in old Japan. Gameplay involves combat, dexterity, and 'brush strokes' you create using your controller. As you progress thorugh the game, you learn more strokes. Some brush strokes are combative, some movement related, and you use them to kill enemies and solve puzzles. What made the game outstanding to me was its backstory and beautiful, stylized artistic style. The environment and characters are rendered as simple but elegant, two-dimensional brush art. The music worked well with the game but didn't stand out to me. My only complaint is that the game is easy to beat, but if you're playing for the full story experience, the difficulty level isn't a huge drawback.
