All my young life, local and national sports events in our province of Negros Occidental, southern Philippines, were held at the Paglaum Sports Complex. Sometimes open air concerts, spiritual conferences, etc. were also held here. It has a big stadium and a big field, that is why it can host national games. Along the stadium are offices of different sports bodies and there were also commercial spaces for rent. There was some parking space, but not really ample. MY only problem then was that the rest rooms were not well maintained. Even if there are special events, the bathrooms reeked of urine and you know what. But we did not seem to mind then. It was also accessible as it was near the downtown area and hence the center of the city. It can be reached by commuter jeeneys, taxis, and other common forms of transportation.
Eventually, though when a newer park and stadium was built, Paglaum Sports Complex was left to rot. It had not been maintain anymore. Although it is still open to be rented, who would really want to rent a dilapidated sports complex?
It is really sad because it sits on a big parcel of land and is entirely useless. That is the problem of government property. If there is a new administration, the projects of the old governor get forgotten. Anyway, right now it seems like Paglaum Sports is a major dung heap.
