Like all of its predecessors on systems past, Mario Kart Wii delivers solid entertainment that the whole family can appreciate. It bears very similar resemblance to other Mario Kart games, except this time Nintendo decided that fans should have the ability to race each other online. One of the best parts of the game is unlocking faster karts and new characters, and subsequently using them to defeat opponents online in race mode. Not only is that satisfying, but you can play with family members over the internet as well. For example, my brother and I play together from the comfort of our own living rooms, despite that we are many miles apart.
As for the game itself, I thoroughly enjoy every minute that I play it. I personally like being able to have four people playing with any Nintendo Wii compatible controller (Wii-mote + Nunchuk, Gamecube controller, Classic controller, or Steering wheel) in either racing mode or battle mode. Also, there are many characters (some unlockable) to choose from that all have specialized vehicles depending on their character type.
Despite that the game was intended for steering wheel control, it is genuinely difficult to master. I would suggest using the Wii-mote and Nunchuk control style for first timers, as it is the easiest to use. Also, game play can prove to be frustrating from time to time as there are some small uncorrected glitches and AI annoyances are a frequent occurrence (much like in every other Mario Kart).
Overall, this game is worth trying, at least. It is a game that anyone of any age (assuming he or she has proper motor skills) can enjoy in nearly any setting. If you haven't tried the game, I suggest you do so. If you have played the game, then you understand exactly how fun that this game is when having friends over, trying to entertain, bond with your family, or when you desire a little anonymous competition from online play. This game is absolutely a must for anyone wishing to build their Wii, or general video game, library.
