I am normally the vacation planner in the family, and those vacations rarely involve golf. My husband is the only golfer in the family. So when he got the chance to have a golf weekend with the guys, he jumped at it.

The Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate was offering a Florida resident special. It included the room and 2 rounds of golf at either of the ChampionsGate courses or surrounding Orlando courses for about $250. My husbands group picked one ChampionsGate course and one Disney course. The ChampionsGate courses are designed by golfer, Greg Norman. The group enjoyed the golf and said the courses were challenging. Though they were totally exhausted after 36 holes since this was in late August.

Luckily for them, the Omni resort offers much more than golf. It has an onsite spa to help the golfers unwind. It also has an amazing pool that my husband liked almost as much as the golf. The Omni at ChampionsGate has a 850-foot lazy river. The guys found this to be the perfect place to relax and cool off after golf.

The dining choices at the Omni range from deli and grille food, which my husbands group loved, to more fancy fare. There are a few restaurants right outside the resort, but it is not a highly developed area yet.

Because of the extras (read: non-golf activities) I have been trying to make reservations for another weekend for the whole family. The prices start at almost $400 a night for unlimited golf. The Omni now only offers golf packages with its own courses. So I doubt we'll do the unlimited golf package. But my husband is very interested in checking out the course he did not play the first visit. I'll just have to hope for another great special like the one he found.

Other benefits to the Omni is it's only 15-minutes from Walt Disney World. So while the golfers are on the course, the rest of us can either head to Disney or just hang out at the pool. Rooms range from your regular deluxe hotel to suites to a 3-bedroom grand villa.

I think if you like golf but want a vacation the whole family can enjoy, the Omni at ChampionsGate in Orlando would be a great choice.
