When we lived in Europe, my husband bought one of those basic GPS systems because he had to travel through several countries to get to his maintenance sites. His main job was to maintain some very expensive equipment for NATO countries. We had a great time going to Holland, Germany, and other countries.

Anyway, this GPS helped him to map his trip from Germany to Holland and in fact made it easier for him to remember the best route. But, I will have to say that his old GPS is not anything like this Garmin version.

What the Garmin has which his old GPS lacked was maps and directions. He had to make his own routes. So a couple of Saturdays ago, we took this new GPS for a ride. First, don't forget to make sure that you are using the driving menu. My husband had it on a walking menu (you can take it with you on your treks) and it told use that a 30 minute drive would take use 27 hours to walk.

Also, the maps are very accurate. They can take you to the center of the city, or even to a store.

My only complaint was when we didn't go the route, the Garmin kept saying "calculating, calculating." She can be a pesky thing when she thinks you are going the wrong way.

Couple of things I really like about our new toy:

-size: small and easily carried

-great maps

-easy to use (intuitive)

I am not sure the price for this Garmin series because we used our points (American Express) to buy it. Plus it was on sale. Also, I think that the Garmin 255W replaces the 205W. We came to this conclusion after we couldn't find this series in Cabelas.

Anyway, Garmin has really delivered this time.
