I better start with a confession here- I hate to cook, but I do love me some kitchen gadgets! My wife calls them my "toys" because I love everything from blenders to food mills, from cookie scoops to pizza cutters, and just about anything in between. I have been banned on more than one occasion from the kitchen gadget section of our local housewares store by said wife.
When she came home with this little tool after attending a Pampered Chef, I must admit I was not impressed- it looks so unassuming! And, at only 75 cents, I figured it wouldn't last long. Once I used it though, I was hooked!
The end of the orange plastic peeler has a small hook on it that is used to score the citrus peel. From there, you can flip the tool around and use the tapered end to get under the peel and pull it easily off. This is so great, because now I don't get the orange rinds stuck under my fingernails as I pull tiny little pieces off. My oranges peel in a fraction of the time now. I have used the back side of the hooked end of the peeler to make lemon zest, and that works great as well. Clean-up is easy; I just throw it in the dishwasher.
This tool is simple enough, but I love using it because it saves me time, and works great. Plus, the cheap price means I can buy more of those bigger gadgets that I have eyeing up!
