While on vacation I was using my old Nikon N2020, which was heavy, bulky and cumbersome. I had wanted to buy a digital camera for some time, but had been unable to convince my husband to pay for one, until I made him pack the Nikon N2020 for a day at the Oregon Coast!
We went down to Walmart and I carefully looked through all the pocket digital cameras they had. I wanted a camera that had a good resolution, a good zoom, easy to use, light-weight but durable, nice features, some adjustability if I decided to mess around with it and would take good pictures.
I found it in the Panasonic DMC-TZ1! It has been a great little camera, I take it everywhere we go. It takes awesome outdoor or bright light pictures, the zoom (10x) rocks! and has some bonus features I love.
Not only is the DMC-TZ1 a digital camera, but it also takes video, and not the 10-15 seconds you can get out of your standard digital cameras, the length of video is solely determined by the memory size. On my 2 gig memory card, I can take up to 25 minutes of video.
This camera is super easy to use, point and shoot. It is heavier weight than some of the other cameras I have looked at, but I feel that is because of the quality of the camera and the features it offers.
The only downside to this little camera is that it does not take good indoor/low light pictures, especially of movement. I took it to my sons swimming lessons which were at an indoor pool, and though it did take ok pictures, whenever I tried to take a picture of him swimming or diving off the diving board, I got alot of grain and blur, even with the flash. Also the shutter lag can be substantial when using the flash.
Overall, I do recommend the DMC-TZ1 as a super-easy to use, some-what adjustable, quality, well-built and feature-packed little camera that I would buy again in a heart-beat!
