My husband and I spent the weekend at Walt Disney World recently, and prior to the trip, I knew I needed a new bag to take with me to the parks. I had narrowed it down to two different Vera Bradley bags...the backsack and the hipster. One day my husband and I were shopping and I showed him both to get his opinion. He liked the hipster better, and thought the backsack might be uncomfy on my shoulders so that is what I got. I ended up buying it in the new Cambridge pattern, which has blues, greens, and blacks in a zig-zag pattern. Sounds horribly garish, and the first time I saw the pattern on the website, I agreed. But in real life, it's actually very pretty! I love how it looks.
This bag holds more than I thought it would, but less than I am used to, so I do have to "edit" what I bring with me a little bit. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because it keeps the bag lightweight and easy to tote around. Besides, I always end up bringing more stuff than I need. It has a small zippered pocked on the front, along with a slip-in pocket above that. In the main compartment, there are two smaller slip-in pockets that are perfect for a cell phone, iPod, keys, etc. The long strap is adjustable, which is great for shorter people like myself. I feel very secure wearing it across my body while we walk around the theme parks. And since it is built to be flat, it lays very close to my body as I walk, instead of bouncing around like a regular messanger bag might.
The bag is made out of a very sturdy cotton, and feels very well-made. But because it is made of cotton, I do worry about it getting dirty, stained, or damaged, but so far it is holding up great. I know I can throw it in the washing machine, but I haven't gotten up the courage to do that yet.
