Rafael Salas Park & Nature Center is located in Guintubdan, La Carlota City, southern Negros Occidental in Southern Philippines. The city is a small one on the countryside, and the park is ensconsed way up in the mountains. I think it is about 2000 feet above sea level.
The Park and Nature Center is the perfect summer camp venue because the climate there is cool, so much different from the humid and temperate lowlands. It has rooms for overnight stays, which are very cheap, but of course very simple. There are rooms for couples, families, and big groups, that is why our church has held many summer camps there. The accommodations are also very cheap. For day travellers, they have cottages and tables for rent. You can bring food or have someone cook your raw ingredients. There is no restaurant in the area though.
It is easy for us to organize activities because they have a main hall for the sessions and we have a whole concretized area where we can play games. We can also organize hikes and nature tripping walks because of the extensive forested areas around the park. There are also several waterfalls outside of the park, so we would often go out in groups, take a hike, and swim in the cool waterfalls.
Bikers would go to the park only riding their bikes. The fresh cool mountain air is the thing that city dwellers and adventurers from the city crave.
It is actually easy to go there. From Manila, which is the capital of the Philippines, a one-hour plane ride is needed to go to Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental. From Bacolod City, it only takes an hour by land to reach Rafael Salas Park.
If you don't have food with you, it is just easy to get to the local wet market and buy the freshest ingredients and cook them in the kitchen for a fee.
