I purchased Philosophy's Kiss Me Lip Exfoliant and Kiss Me Lip Balm in red as a set called "Crisis Intervention" because my lips were feeling exceptionally dry, and I didn't like the way they were looking. Philosophy is a dermatologist's line of skin care, make-up, and bath and beauty products, and these are two of their best, at least in my opinion.
I can no longer find the set, but the Kiss Me Exfoliant and Lip Balm can be found separately on-line at both Sephora.com and Philosophy.com, and those lucky enough to live near a Macy's or Nordstrom's can probably find them there. The exfoliant is $15, and the lip balm is $10.
Exfoliation is one of the best things you can do for your skin, whether it's your legs or your lips. Philosophy's Kiss Me contains fructose as the primary exfoliant, along with glycerin for softening, and botanicals including sunflower seed oil, olive fruit oil, sesame seed oil, mango seed butter, and more. You apply a small amount to your lips, rub for a minute or so, then remove it with a tissue or damp washcloth. The absolute best time to apply a moisturizer is immediately after exfoliating, when the fresh new skin cells are ready.
The Kiss Me lip balm comes in several different colors and fragrances. The red lip balm in my set contains lanolin and petrolatum as the primary softening and protecting ingredients, as well as botanicals like kiwi seed oil and sweet almond oil. Although it looks bright red in the tube, on the lips it doesn't quite have that fire-hydrant glow, but a softer and more natural look, much like some of the lip plumpers. I can't quite place the fragrance, but it's soft and pleasant. The package instructions say: "melt into lips.. twice a day, beging saying really nice things to someone you love, and don't forget to kiss."
Overall Philosophy's Kiss Me Exfoliant and Lip Balm are very effective in both wrinkle reduction and softening. They are priced higher than many similar products, though, and I'm not sure the products are that much better than less expensive or even home-made products. The price, and the label on the Crisis Intervention box ("for aging, dry, wrinkled lips") are my only complaints, and bring my overall rating down to 4.0.
