I am obsessed with pens. As a writer, I go through a lot of them. My favorite pens are also the cheapest I have found: Pilot EasyTouch Fine.
These pens are easy to grip, which makes for a smooth line on the paper without cutting in to your finger. The ink lasts for a long time. I only write with fine tip pens because my handwriting just gets sloppy and big with any other tip. I like fine tip pens, but I prefer the standard pen over the gel ink pens. The gels can get messy when globs spill onto the paper. Also, sometimes the lines from gel pens get to be too bold or sloppy.
The Pilot EasyTouch Fine Tip Pen is very reliable. The ink never gets stuck, and even if you forget to put the lid back on, the ink will not dry out.
I have many pens, but these are my favorite for every day, business-type uses. There are many colors to choose from. There are black, dark blue, sky blue, violet, red, maroon, green, etc. These pens are not only reliable and nice looking, but very inexpensive.
