What to do on those special nights, where you ring in a fresh new year or celebrate romantic love?
Book a stay--online or by phone at any hour of the day or night with a friendly staff member--at the Alexis Park Inn. You won't regret it.
True, the whole idea of a theme suite scared me. I was prepared for tacky, but the value and the amenities were too tempting to pass up that easily!
For example, breakfast is delivered to your door at 6:00 AM every morning. And you can choose from a variety of delicious pastries and--gasp!--fantastic coffee, brewed in your very own 10-cup pot. They don't knock, but rather leave a basket with your breakfast and newspaper covered up neatly by your door.
You can also choose to pay $50 and travel across Iowa City in an airplane, and maybe even take the controls yourself (and earn hours toward your pilot license!). There is an outdoor swimming pool, a massage therapist on-site, a menu of down-home foods to call up to your room. Oh, and a flight simulator. And an aviation library. That's right!
Each suite is decked out in beautiful, historic artwork and decor according to theme. My fiance and I stayed at the Red Baron, which was tastefully-decorated and included a two-person whirlpool right in our bathroom, next to our separate bedroom containing a comfy queen-size bed. We took a homemade pizza with us to pop in the oven for late-night snacking...and called up a full set of cookware! We ate breakfast at our sleek breakfast bar, and soaked up some sun on our private balconey.
The flight simulator was incredibly fun, and one of the friendly staff members helped to show us the ropes. The owners checked us in as well as out and provided excellent service and fun conversation.
Everything about our stay was fantastic (including the Korbel in an ice bucket upon our arrival, for only $25 extra). There are many pubs, restaurants, stores, and gas stations less than a mile from the inn.
Whether you love flying or don't give a flip one way or the other, win over your mate with a surprise weekend getaway at this romantic little nook in Iowa City. Just don't tell them how little you spent!
