This collector's piece was part of a giveaway item in December of 2007 when you purchased the new release of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean "At World's End" DVD, in certain locations at Walt Disney World, Disneyland and the Disney Store in New York City.We purchased this piece at the Disney Liquidation Sale in April of 2008.
My husband spotted it and kept asking it I wanted it. I really didn't care, because I never took the time to see what it was. But I saw the price was only $0.75 - yes, seventy-five cents, so we got it.
We moved shortly thereafter and I packed it away. I was hanging it up that October and finally took the time to read and see what this "thing" was. To my surprise, this "piece" has a bronze toned medallion and an authentic piece of sailcloth from the "Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End" movie ship. So we actually have a piece of movie history, even though it's about 1 inch square. It's all still wrapped up in the plastic wrap and I haven't framed it as of yet, but will, when I find a suitable frame to show it off. So right now, it's up with push pins (but not through the matte).
The inscription states:
The Empress Ship
Collectible Bronze Medallion and Authentic Piece of Sailcloth
Bestowed upon this holder of
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Blu-ray Disc or DVD
The total piece measures 8 inches by 10 inches and has a lithographed picture of the Empress Ship from the movie. I have seen it selling for around $4 on eBay, so even though it's not a highly sought after piece, we only paid $0.75 for it.
Update On Mar 31, 2010: When people come over and realize that we have a piece of the sailcloth from the actual ship in the Pirates of the Caribbean, they want to take it home. Who knows if Jack Sparrow touched it or not, but it's nice to think so.
