I don't normally buy Playtex tampons because the plastic applicator is not environmentally friendly, and they're a little more expensive than Tampax. But I received a $3.00 coupon for Playtex Sport tampons, a new product in my grocery store. So I picked up a box to try them out.
The first thing I noticed was that the "quiet, durable, easy-open wrapper" wasn't so easy to open. Now I'm long past the age of hyper self-consciousness, and I really don't care if the lady in the next stall hears the rip of paper as I open a tampon for myself. Maybe when I was 15, that would have mattered more. But this wrapper tends to stretch instead of rip, and that's not helping me get to the product I need. Don't make me get the scissors out for a lousy tampon.
The plastic applicator is odd-looking, but a very nice engineering design. Many times, I've accidentally pulled the wrong way on a tampon applicator when I'm tearing off the paper wrapper, only to have it fall apart in my hands. That's not possible with the Playtex Sport applicator design.
Now normally a tampon will maintain its cylindrical tube shape regardless of how heavy my flow is that day, and invariably, I'm going to leak. But not with the Playtex Sport tampons. These opened right up into a flower shape that caught it all. If anything, it was a little hard to pull the Playtex Sport tampon back out when it was time to change.
Playtex is currently offering a free sample of Playtex Sport tampons while supplies last and a $1 off coupon. I highly recommend trying them out. I was very pleased with this product.
