I am always on the lookout for new cleaning products to freshen my home. This was certainly an innovative one. It's called Plink, and it is a garbage disposal cleaner and deodorizer. There are 10 yellow balls, about the size of a gum ball, in the package. First you run hot water and your garbage disposal, to clear it of food scraps. Then you turn down the hot water to a slow stream, and drop in one of the Plink balls. Continue running the disposal for about 15 additional seconds. Then turn off the disposal and the hot water.

The product is supposed to freshen your whole kitchen, break up fat and food particles, and clean away bad odors. The scent is a wonderful fresh lemon.

Here is my experience. Initially, I did smell a lemon fragrance, but not for very long. The instructions said that you could "revive" the lemon scent as desired, by running the disposal with "bursts of hot water." I tried this the next day, but could not identify any additional lemon fragrance. However, I also did not smell any food odors, so it seemed to take care of those.

Plink is advertised to be safe for all disposers and pipes, and it is advised that you "plink your sink" twice a week. I have had equally good results when using Comet, or liquid dishwashing detergent in the disposal, so I'm not sure that this is a lot better. But I thought it was worth a try.

Please keep this cleaner out of the reach of children and pets, as it very much resembles lemon candy.
