Steve Freeling is one of the realtors of a newly-built housing development. He moves in one of the houses there with his family (wife, son, and two daughters). Shortly after they move in, the family discovers that the house is haunted by ghosts. They start out friendly but show their true, evil side and terrorize the family before they target their youngest daughter, Carol Anne.
Paranormal experts and psychics are brought in to help her.
The story is simple but mysterious at the same time. The unknowns created a lot of suspense.
Set in the suburbs, it shouldn't be creepy but it is. The horror is with the actors, SFX, and tone.
Heather O'Rourke is the star as Carol Anne. Her acting is very good such a young age.
Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams give a good performance as the parents because you can really feel they love their children and want to protect them.
Zelda Rubinstein plays the psychic woman, Tangina Barrons. She is s cute, little old woman with a very unique voice, Some people find her character creepy.
The SFX are so good! There is no gore but a few scenes stand out as being creepy.
The music is perfect. The theme song by Jerry Goldsmith is the perfect accompaniment to this movie.
This is a great horror film that I recommend to all horror fans.
