I hate, more than most anything. buying lawn equipment. Maybe I'm missing a little bit of testosterone, but I get no joy out of buying anything to keep my yard straight. I don't mind doing the work, but I just hate spending the money on something I"ll use for 5 minutes twice a year.
I used to buy cheap electric trimmers for that very reason. I'd by the smallest electric weed eater they had and end up throwing it away at the end of the summer after cutting the cord 100 times. That's why my wife convinced me to buy a gas-powered one that costs a lot of money. I reluctantly gave in. However, every dollar I spent on this new Poulan gas trimmer was worth it.
The Poulan gas trimmer is a highly effective piece of equipment. It requires very little gas/oil mix, has a wide trimming radius of 18", and seems to cut through anything...thankfully I don't have to worry about it cutting through an extension cord. Once you get this baby started, it can be an addictive lawn tool!
Getting it started is the trick, though. It takes a little priming and pushing and pulling, but it generally doesn't take more than two minutes for the Poulan gas trimmer to start working. When your trimming line gets short, just tap it on the ground and you're back to cutting that pesky weed stock.
My only recommendation is that you get a serious arm work out or prepare to have an involuntary one when you use the Poulan gas trimmer. It isn't by any means light. If you want to incorporate it as excercise, challenge yourself by switching arms every couple of minutes. Other than that, I am happy with this investment, even with the rising gas prices!
