When I was about 4 months pregnant I bought this DVD hoping it would give me some good tips on how to do some simple, safe yoga exercises. Overall, I did learn some good positions, but it wasn't worth buying.
I chose this specific DVD because it is put out by the Mayo Clinic. I knew I could trust the information because of that. I also liked the fact that it showed how to do different position for different stages of the pregnancy. I was excited to try it for the first time when I got home, but the first time was the only time I ended up watching it.
The DVD is broken up into about 5 different sections. From what I can remember, it has a warm-up, upper body, lower body, floor exercises, and relaxation section. Each section has exercises that start off simple and get progressively more challenging. There are 3 women in the video to follow depending on what trimester you are currently in. Each trimester has a slightly different modification to the pose for safety and comfort.
The exercises were good, but I found myself very tired after following the DVD. I would not suggest doing the full workout for a while if you are just starting an exercise regimen. I never ended up following the DVD again because of that, and the fact that it was quite boring. I know yoga is supposed to be slow and relaxing, but it really deterred me. It didn't help when I was trying to figure out a pose, breath correctly, and have the lady speak in a low, monotone voice.
I did take away a few poses I continued to use throughout my pregnancy, but I did them on my own. They helped keep my muscles loose, joints flexible, and back comfortable. I think you could find this same information online or from a book or DVD from the library.
