My husband wanted a set of carving knives and when I saw these at Sam's Club, there was a Chef there and he said he had these knives at home and attested that they carved very well. So I purchased them and my husband loves them. I use the two smaller ones - honestly, the two larger ones scare me. I guess too many horror movies or something.
This set is called, "Santoku" Cutlery Set by Wolfgang Puck. They are made of high carbon stainless steel and fit well in the hand.
The knife sizes are:
I do not know much about the dishwasher safe part - I mean, they are labeled to be ok, but my husband won't allow it. He wants them washed immediately and put right back. He doesn't want to risk rusting them or staining the metal by having them sit by other metal utensils. It's his gift, so no big deal and they cut beautifully. We've had them for about eight months now and use them almost daily. The handles are still sturdy and the wood block holder keeps them safely put away.
They really are great for chopping, slicing and even carving. The specially made blades cut through fruits, vegetables and meats easily. My sister is a Chef and I don't have the $600 to spend on a cutlery and knife set like she has, so these work just fine for us.
