My husband doesn't get involved much in the home decorating process. However, there is one item of furniture that he is very picky about: his computer desk.
Dan is an IT professional and spends the majority of his day at a desk, be it at the office or here at home. For this reason, we were in the market for something that was high quality, comfortable, and had an open concept that would allow him easy access to the back for the computer, as he is always plugging and unplugging various equipment and tweaking things inside the computer tower. This desk fit the bill perfectly.
The Star Kochab L-Shaped Desk is very solidly built with one-inch thick wood, and is finished with a shiny coating, almost like a counter-top. It has attractive glass panels on the sides, as well as a glass shelf that is perfect for the monitor (or in Dan's case, his alternate monitor =) ) It has a slide-out keyboard tray and a small pedistal on wheels for the tower. The wheeled stand has proven to be especially helpful because it allows Danial to pull out the tower easily for modifications, then just as easily return it to its neat position under the desk.
As I mentioned, this desk is SOLID. This is a good thing because it can withstand a substantial amount of weight and use, but it also makes assembly tricky. The two of us had to work together to do it, because holding the various parts up and screwing them together proved to be too heavy and awkward for just one person.
This desk comes in Mahogany or Cherry finish, and can be built either left-handed or right-handed (so that the long part of the "L" is on either side). This way it can accomidate your office space. The overall dimensions are: 69"W x 56"D x 36"H.
Both Dan and I are very pleased with this purchase. He especially likes the layout and the large workspace, and I appreciate it because it is such an attractive piece of furniture, and because it makes him so happy.
We bought this desk in person at Staples, but you can also purchase it online at Staples.com or Staples.ca.
