The title of this paperback book is, " Queen Victoria " and is written by Lytton Strachey. The author is said to be the definitive biography of England's famous ruler. I purchased this book at Barnes & Noble for 15.00. This book contains 327 pages and is packed with very informative and interesting facts concerning the Monarchy, the politics surrounding the Parliament and the relations of royalty. Victoria became Queen when her uncle, the King, died. She was only 18 years old, but had a deep desire to do what was best for England. The photograph on the front cover of this book shows she definitely was not an attractive woman. In spite of this physical flaw, she was instrumental in achieving her goals for her beloved England. Through an arranged marriage to Prince Albert of Germany, she becomes more aware of the situations that need correction particularly in her palace and Parliament. Queen Victoria's husband, Albert, gave her sound advice on different matters. For several years she could not accept his advice because he was from Germany and the British people would not hear of his interference with England's problems. Fortunately, Queen Victoria eventually sees things his way. I found this book to be so very interesting and filled with facts that were important to know regarding the history of Queen Victoria's era. I was so immersed in reading this book that it only took me two days to finish it. It is definitely worth reading more than once.
