The 15th is quickly approaching! If you are still struggling to get your taxes ready, I highly recommend QuickTax 2009.

We have used Quick Tax the past two years, and wouldn't be without it. I am completely clueless when it comes to numbers and taxes, but this program makes the process easy and stress-free.

Once installed, Quick Tax walkes you through each step of the preparation process. You are prompted to enter information from specific lines of specific forms, and are even shown a handy diagram of where to find the information you are looking for. We use the Standard Version of the software, which handles T4's, charitable donations, RRSP contributions, deductions for dependants, medical expenses and more. Other versions of this software include:

Basic: The cheapest option, that only calculates T4's and charitable donations.

Platinum: Which includes everything in the Standard Version plus stocks and investments.

Business Unincorporated: Platinum plus self-employment deductions. This version can be synced to Quickbooks or Quicken.

Once you have prepared your taxes with Quick Tax, you may choose to print and mail your forms, or file them online using Netfile, Canada Revenue Agency's official online filing system. If you choose to file online, you get your refund faster. It is advertised as 5-10 days. We received ours after 6 or 7 days.

The thing I appreciate about Quick Tax, is that it thinks for you, and works to get you the very best refund. It will automatically apply deductions to the spouse that will receive the most return from them (if you have chosen to file jointly), or will save deductions for you that can be carried over to the next tax year. We used Quick Tax 2007 and choose to carry over some of our decuctions. When we signed in to Quick Tax 2008, our saved deductions appeared on the screen automatically. The program will also alert you if there appears to be any inconsistancies or errors and show you how to correct them before you file. In addition to all of this, the program shows you your estimated return in the top corner of the screen the entire time you are working, so you can see how the different deductions all add up. We have found their estimates to be very accurate.

One copy of Quick Tax is capable of processing 8 or more returns, so your entire family can use it and share the cost of the software. Incomes under 25, 000 are calculated for "free" on this program, so in most cases, your teenage children can use this program without cutting into your limit of 8 returns.

Quick Tax is compatible with PC's that have Windows 2000 or higher. I don't believe it is compatible with Mac's. Sorry Apple fans!

This software saves us time and stress, and helps us earn the best refund we can. I consider it to be a solid yearly investment!
