I have wild turtles in my backyard. I even feed them every day during the summer because they hibernate during the winter months. I recently found a baby turtle, so small that I was afraid he wouldn't make it on his own, especially when you consider that we have a good number of birds that sit on the telephone and cable lines waiting for food to come along. So hubby and I went to Petsmart to see if we could find some small animal habitat that I could keep the baby turtle in until he is big enough to be released on his own. We purchased a small animal home that has a metal tray base and chew proof metal wires that fit into the base. The little home has a latch door and is 24 inches long and 12 inches high. I filled the little home with dirt and grass and the little fellow has food and places to dig and hide. He seems to be getting a little bigger, and I let him roam around in the backyard under my watchful eye so that none of those pesky birds will use him for dinner.
For anyone who has small animals, this little habitat would be a great idea. It is actually made for rats and other small animals of that type, but it is working out great for the baby turtle until he gets big enough to let loose. This definitely turned out to be a good buy.
