This movie is about the life of Earl 'The Goat' Manigault who was one of the greatest streetball players ever.

Earl 'The Goat' Manigault

Most people probably have never heard of Earl Manigault but legends of the nba remember him and also playing against him at a time in their life. Thats one of the refreshing things about this film is I'm learning about someone who was such a great basketball player and doesn't have his name smeared in so many places like Michael Jordan. His nickname is the Goat because thats what it sounds like when people heard his last name Manigault therefore his nickname the Goat was established.

The Credibility of the Movie

I find my self wondering if some of the stuff in the film is hyped just to make a better film or if Earl Manigault really was that good. I definitely think the movie was hyped somewhat but I believe the story for the most part. You would think there would be more proof out there about Earl Manigault like photos or video footage, but I can understand why they don't have much to go on about him. Earl never really took off to full form to show his great potential to the world and also his great basketball playing days took place in the 1950s and 60s. There obviously was not much media to go on back then like there is now. I found only one photo of him with a basketball but all it showed was him in a shooting position. You would think with how good he was there would at least be better photos of him playing basketball. One person who was a great NBA basketball player makes a very positive compliment about Earl 'The Goat' Manigault. That 1 compliment by the NBA Great is enough for me to believe Earl Manigualt was a great basketball player.

Phases of Earl Manigaults Life

The movie shows Earl Manigault during phases of his life. Even though its sad the film gets into stuff thats all too typical of todays society as you see Earl Manigault in the worst stages of his life. Its not overly bad as the ending of the film has something to feel good about. Also its somewhat amusing watching Earl as the guy portraying him looked a little too old to be in high school.

His Jumping Abiliities

His basketball abilties in the film are really something to be amazed at considering he was only 6"2 in height. I would later find out by looking up online what type of workouts aided him in having such great jumping ability that they don't bring up in the movie. It involved attaching chains and weights to his legs to help increase his jumping ability. Its best they didn't show the workouts that helped him jump higher as it would probably would only drag down the film and add unnesscessary boredom to it. He still had to have talent to begin with.

The film was ok overall. I had actually seen parts of it years back and remembered it so I decided to rent it and watch the whole movie. The film is made by HBO which I really like. HBO films and shows can be controversial but they tell things like they really are instead of going with the usual stereotypical stuff found on much of TV.
