Over the years, I've traveled many, many times. Usually, this means I need to find a hotel room, which is a hassle to me.

I first discovered Red Roof Inn while visiting Kansas City about 30 years ago. They had a brand new facility and rooms cost $19.95. It was perfect for what I needed.

When I travel, I am going to visit people or do some sightseeing. I'm not there to swim in the hotel pool or use their workout facilities. All I want is a decent room at a decent price. Red Roof Inn has given me that repeatedly over the years.

I have stayed at some very expensive resorts in Hawaii and ritzy hotels in NYC and abroad. Of course it's nice to have a big fancy room, but my thrifty nature won't allow me to waste money on a room that I won't be spending time in. I am there to sleep and shower and that's it. I don't need a pool, restaurant or gym. Those are things I'd be paying for and not using, so I prefer to stay where they aren't an option. Why pay for something you don't use? I prefer to spend my money on entertainment and souvenirs.

There are Red Roof Inns all over the country and I couldn't begin to guess how many I've stayed in. Every single one was the same and every one was clean. I've never had a nasty surprise or had to change rooms for any reason. I like knowing what I'm getting, so there are no issues when I arrive. Maybe I've been lucky and missed out on problems, as I know every place has problems from time to time. But, I haven't experienced any of them.

Each room has either one large bed or two full-size beds. There's a small table and chairs, a place to hang clothes and store luggage and a small bathroom. The sink and mirror are outside the bathroom, so one person can be in the bathroom while the other is using the mirror to get ready. It speeds up the process, which I like. They provide soap, kleenex and toilet paper. No tiny bottles of shampoo or hand lotion will be found. I'd rather take my own anyway.

The employees have always been polite, and helpful, which is another plus.

If you're looking for a basic room with no frills at a reasonable rate, consider Red Roof Inn. You can check out their locations and rates at http://www.redroof.com/.
