This is probably my son's favorite part of our vacation.
This place is very easy to get to, just right off of Highway 16 in Rapid City. It has three informative shows, a bird show, an alligator show and a snake show. What I like about these shows is they have them timed so you can just hop to one after another and catch all the shows. The guide of the Alligator show was very entertaining as well as informative.
After the show he even brought out a baby alligator for people to pet and ask questions about.
They also have a very old Giant Tortoise here. You are allowed to pet it and take pictures with it.
The main attraction though is the big dome that houses all kind of reptiles. First you walk in and there is a creepy crawlies section, full of spiders, scorpions and hissing cockroaches, which my wife did not care for.
Next you came across frogs and lizards. Some of the frogs were poisonous and very tiny. I personally was surprised just how small some frogs were yet deadly.
They also have a huge Komodo Dragon! Make sure to check out this guy. He is a huge site.
The highlight of the place though was upstairs in the snake area. They had all kinds of snakes, to tiny snakes to a 30 foot guy! They had your non venomous to your extremely venomous, one bite and you are dead, snakes. Thankfully all these snakes were on the other side of plexiglass.
It was very interesting to see many different kind of snakes that you only hear or read about. My son really enjoyed this place. He took the time and read all the information on the different snakes.
I felt it was worth the money and the stop. The grounds were very well maintained and litter free. We went in the evening and it was not crowded at all. It was nice and peaceful walking around the grounds.
