My husband started playing racquetball in college and years later: when we started dating, I began playing as well. We still play weekly and the kids have been brought up playing. It is a really fun, intense game that can give you an amazing workout.
When you first start playing, the racquet you use really isn't that important. But, this changes as your game improves until it reaches the point of being very important! For my anniversary, my husband got me the Ektelon 03 Red Racquet. I should add here I also got diamond earrings so he doesn't sound like a clueless ding dong. Anyway, back to this wonderful racquet.
First I'll explain what is so great about the Ektelon 03 Red Racquet and then go into the specs for those interested. I first tried this racquet after a guy we play with bought it. He is an advanced player and loved the fact it was so light but he also loved the fact his wife, a beginner could use the same racquet with a quick change. How you ask? With the very cool ability to add (or remove) "power plugs" into the frame changing the swing weight configurations. The "power plugs" change the weight and balance of the frame in key locations, allowing for greater power.
The weight of your racquet is a combination of your playing ability, style and personal preference. Being able to control that is a nice option and I find myself adjusting it between games as I first warm up and then after the second and third game, start tiring.
Ektelon has increased the sweet spot by 54%. Upon hearing this, anyone who has played tennis or racquetball will imagine an enlarged racquet head and in turn, the need to adjust to a new sized racquet when playing. But, that is what is so cool about the 03, they increased they over doubled the sweet spot area without increasing the size of the racquet!
They also enlarged the string holes (a lot) causing not only the sweet spot but the entire string bed. These two little changes allow for more control and power with each and every shot. Very cool.
The Ektelon 03 Red Racquet is easy on my arm and while giving me the control, helps me out with each stroke. It is a great racquet for most players, especially intermediate levels.
