The Xbox 360 Slim with the Kinect.

We all have those times when we know it is time to upgrade to a new system, but we are just too skeptical about it. I definitely understand. Microsoft has released their new installment, the Xbox 360 Slim. As the name suggests, it is much slimmer than the earlier model. This new Xbox 360 has most of the same features but some small aspects that make it different.

At first you will notice the sleek, black casing that protects the 360. This is definitely a new feature. The earlier version has a rather hard plastic casing. It does look aesthetically pleasing with a dark black HDTV. I will start by saying that this model has a lot more convenient features. On the back of the Xbox, you can see many ports. One of the ports is for the HDMI cable. The HDMI port was not included in some of the previous models.

Next, you will find a different and peculiar port that was not seen in the earlier model. This port is for Microsoft's latest device called the Kinect. The Kinect is basically a camera that tracks your movements and coordinates them with the game. So you can move your avatar and stuff like that. Now this will connect directly to your Xbox 360. What does this mean?

It means that it will share power with the 360. It is a nice feature to have if you don't want to use another outlet for your gaming needs. The earlier version does not have this feature so it needs a separate outlet. The next and in my opinion the biggest difference is the built-in wireless adapter. This permits you to play online, which is very essential for the Xbox 360.

The built-in adapter is a very neat and innovative feature. The earlier models did not have this feature. That meant you had to go out and buy it with your Xbox 360. It costed around $50 to around $100. This was a feature that most Xbox gamers were pleased about.

The next big feature is the hard drive capacity. Microsoft increased it to 250 gigabytes. This is great if you usually download games to your hard drive and such. Also, the lower priced model has 4 gigabyte space in it. This is mainly if you are not a hardcore gamer and you just want something to play on.

The last feature I will mention is Microsoft's tactic to stop the dreadful Red Ring of Death. Now if your console over- heats at a certain temperature, it will automatically shut off to prevent the Red Ring of Death. This plan was proven successful as the amount of Xbox 360's shipped to Microsoft had dropped quite a bit. Overall, I would say that if you have anything lower than a 120GB Xbox 360, you should buy the Xbox 360 Slim. It has a lot better features as well.
