Ridian shaver in action.

I am able to write this article because I have had to change my shaver. Up until recently, I was using a Braun, and was more than happy with it, but then it started slowing down. I thought it could be due a good clean, and was hoping there was some crud that could be removed. Unfortunately this was not the case, and to cut a long story short, it was destined for the dustbin, which co-incidentally is exactly where I got it from!

My new acquisition is a Ridian, it's one of those new-fangled, wet-or-dry shavers, that you can take into the shower. I have to admit, I have never had mine anywhere near water. As a dry shaver, it does the job as well as any other electric shaver. I am sure that a wet shave is always best, but there are times when this is not practical. The full name of this item is the Ridian RSCW-588. I did not receive any instructions with the shaver, as I received it second-hand.

To start with, I should point out that this is designed as a shaver for men, although I am sure there is no real difference between shavers designed for males or females. The shaver is five inches long, and comes in a plastic storage box, which is of good strong construction, and has rounded corners. Inside this box you will find not only the usual cleaning brush, but also a spare foil, and stuck to the box lid is a mirror!

The compact little Ridian shaver is rechargeable, and supplied with a mains charging lead. This is a good idea, and I have had at least three shaves without having a flat battery, I suspect I could have had more.

The body of my shaver is a metallic blue and silver, and very smooth, while still being easy to hold. There is a red LED to show it is charging, and a simple on/off switch I find easy to use. There is also a pop-up trimmer for moustaches and sideburns etc.

The foil is thin and flexible, and the cutter is so easy to clean with the brush provided. The shaver is also light, and easy to use. Shaving with the Ridian removes all my coarse stubble, leaving a smooth skin, and as a bonus, no irritation. The shaver feels comfortable, and although this shaver is obviously not completely silent, the noise is quite acceptable.

In conclusion, I would just like to say I am happy with the razor, it's performance, the weight, and everything else about it. One day it will break down, then I will have to find a replacement, but until then, it is very good.
