Russell Brand is a British stand-up comedian, actor and TV presenter who became infamous during the oughties for his larger-than-life personality and substance-fueled antics. Once a heroin junkie, the stylish, effete, and literate comedian is also a recovering alcoholic and sex addict. These days, he's making headlines in America for his acclaimed role in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and for his relationship with singer Katy Perry. If you're a yank who just discovered Brand and wants to know more, this stand-up special is a good place to start. While this isn't his best comedy DVD, its entertainment value and short duration (about an hour) make it very accessible to a potentially new fan who wants to know what this Russell Brand fellow is about.
Brand's comedy is mostly drawn from anecdotes about his many adventures and misadventures. Despite his incredible ego, his stories are usually very self-effacing. Watching him and laughing along reminds me of listening to a friend tell you a hilariously embarrassing story while you share a bottle of wine.
Brand is an acquired taste, but if you enjoy this DVD, you'll definitely like his better material. Give him a go! Russell is fabulous.
