I recently stayed at the Salisbury Hotel in New York City for four nights with my mother and teenage daughter. I was a little skeptical, since on my last trip to Manhattan, I stayed at the Rockerfeller Center Hilton, which is a wonderful hotel and a super location. However, the Salisbury pleasantly surprised me. The room was not huge, but not many New York rooms are. The furniture and linens were the standard hotel fare, a little outdated. The bathroom was large and very clean. There were TWO closets. The room also contained a small wet bar with a dorm refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave.
Overall, we were quite pleased. The cost came to about $1500 for four nights with three people. (That price includes an enormous hotel tax which you pay anywhere in Manhattan.) If you've stayed in New York before, you know how outrageous hotel prices are.
The location was wonderful. We walked everywhere, including all the way to the theatre district. There was a good Italian restaurant and a great deli next door. There were also two drug stores right down the street. It was good having the frig and microwave, as we were so tired some days we just got take-out from the deli.
My only criticism is the $4 charge for their continental breakfast buffet. It was handy having it in the hotel, but many have that for free. I also think they need to freshen up the rooms a bit. However, the room was ultra clean. It's a great place to stay in Manhattan.
