Released in 2000, amidst legal battles with their recording label, this Tool collection highlights both the band's groundbreaking sounds and videos that garnered them such a hardcore following.
The set contains a DVD including the following videos - Aenema, Stinkfist, Prison Sex and Sober - a sleek, hard-covered booklet with nearly 60-pages of high gloss artwork and photographs, a CD with the following tracks - Third Eye, Part of Me, Pus#&*, Message to Harry Manback II, Merkaba, You Lied, No Quarter, and hidden track, Maynard's D---, and a dramatic red and black case.
During the first run there were several misprints involving band members' names, song titles, and the order tracks were listed in. You cannot tell from the outside of a wrapped collection whether it is misprinted or not, so buyer beware. There are unopened collections still for sale online and in specialty shops, sometimes going for several hundred dollars. Opened, used versions in good condition can be found for under $30.
I've been a fan since seeing the band perform live in Des Moines in 1994. Maynard James Keenan has a soulful voice, and tunes into the darker aspects of the human condition no one likes to talk about. Adam Jones' visceral artwork compliments the heart of the band's music ... but they're fun guys too, and this collection also highlights that aspect of their personalities. I think this is a well-rounded collection, and an excellent gift for younger fans who may not have seen all their videos first hand.
