I purchased the Samsung a177 as a gift for a friend because it had many features similar to my blackberry without the blackberry price. There is a full QWERTY keyboard, which is great for text messaging, emailing and instant messaging. In addition, it has one-touch messaging. The phones call volume and speakerphone is low. To make matters worst my friend got a virus on the phone after only having it for a week. Their were issues with the text messaging and the camera the phone was not sending or receiving picture msgs for the first two weeks, and the internet connection was very slow. I regret buying this phone and I kind of wish I had chosen to give as a gift a refurbished blackberry instead. Overall, these issues were worked out but they had to turn the phone in for a new one after only two weeks and the volume is still not that great on the new replacement Samsung a177. Another one of my complaints is that you cannot put music on this phone because it does not have a micro SD slot, and I think this would have helped given the phones issues and price tag. Overall I would not recommend this phone unless you do not really text message all that much.
