When after two years of use, my previous $300 mp3 player slipped out of my hand and fell a grand total of twelve inches to break apart on the floor, I knew it was important to be careful with my next purchase. The Samsung K3 combines style, utility, and affordability into one tiny, worthwhile package.
First of all, this is one sexy-looking piece of technology. It is small and sleek, and looks downright futuristic once it lights up. It can fit into pretty much any pocket, but feels sturdy and solid enough not to shatter if you bend over.
The sound quality is excellent, even with the provided earbuds. I imagine it would sound phenomenal with a pair of high end headphones. The interface on the player is easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.
The included software is also easy to use, and boasts some truly fast transfer rates to the player. This is a good thing, because with only 4 gigs of storage space, you might be changing your songs around every so often. I get around 25 hours of battery life on one charge, which is quite good, since the only way to recharge it (without buying a separate kit) is to plug it into the included USB cable.
There are a couple of downsides to the player, but nothing major. First of all, the aforementioned size of 4 gigs. It's probably enough to fit your favorite songs, but if you're are looking to put your entire music collection on it you should get a player with a higher storage capacity. Second, the touch panel interface makes doing anything on the player without looking at it problematic. Without the tactile sensation of raised buttons, changing songs while leaving the player in your pocket will probably be impossible. Lastly, this player does not include video playback. It is for music (and I guess pictures) only.
But, on the whole, I really can't recommend this product enough. It looks great, plays great, is easy to use, and comes at a price point that can't be beat. If you're in the market for a new mp3 player, you can't go wrong with this one.
