When i decided to change living rooms in my home, i had one major problem - my cable tv socket was in one room only and couldnt be transfered to the room i wanted to decorate and move into. I obviously have 2 living rooms but one is very noisy from street traffic etc, so i wanted to move into my back room where its more peaceful. I telephoned the cable tv company i am registered with, and they quoted me a fee of £99.00 to put in a extra socket in my second room. They also said there would be extra fees added to my monthly rental agreement. I was horrified and went in search of a cheaper but instant solution. I eventually came across a wireless satellite receiver box for sale at Argos for only £42.99.

I already had a wireless box for my broadband internet but did not realise you could purchase one for cable tv. The package contains a receiver box and a transmitter box. There is also a plug in infra red eye which will allow you to use your remote control from another room. Its very easy to set up, just plug the transmitter box into your tv where the satellite or cable runs from, and plug the receiver box into the tv in your other room. It worked instantly with a very clear picture.

There are a few negative points to the receiver system, one is there can be intereference if someone or something is obstructing the wave between boxes. The infra red eye to change channels does not work on every satellite or cable station. The overall rating is pretty good considering the quoted cost for extra sockets etc, and you could always have the extra socket when you can afford it.
