I'll admit: my ratings are swayed by the fact I am a Johnny Rivers fan. However, you still should give him a whirl.

Most of Johnny Rivers' sound is the stuff you would imagine coming from a swingin' '60s nightclub -- great beat, hip lyrics and generally lively. Some say Rivers invented this nightclub sound. I suspect some of the selections came from his live album, "Live at the Whisky A Go Go".

There are a few greatest hits albums out there covering Johnny Rivers, but this Dutch import is arguably the best. As a reviewer on Amazon.com said, "If you are looking for a single CD collection of Johnny Rivers' major hits, this album simply cannot be beat."

I remember looking through the choices, and this one came out as the right pick. It has 16 tracks, and includes every single top hit -- from Secret Agent Man (1966) to his last top 10, Swayin' to the Music (1977), the latter ending the CD on a mellow high note. This CD doesn't have any real duds on it either.

I'm not expert enough to know if these are remastered, but the sound quality is remarkably good considering the original recordings were made 30-40 years ago. However, what I do know is this gives all of the top hits in one CD, and that's good enough for me.

The songs are fun, good, and have a quality that makes you want to sing along.

I likewise thought the track arrangement was pretty good, and it largely follows a somewhat chronological order -- the stuff from the 1970s are later in the disc.

Overall, this is the best greatest hits package for the regular Rivers fan. For example, no other -single- CD greatest hits grouping out there that I could find had both "Summer Rain" and the "Boogie Woogie Flu" on the same tracklist.

There are more in-depth multi-disc packages out there, but then you'd be filling up on less popular songs in effort to have a more complete collection. Even if a solid collection is the route you're looking for, this Original Johnny Rivers CD being reviewed still has arguments favoring it.
