When our office got new furniture, we ended up being cramped for space. Our older scanners had to go, so we needed to find a quality scanner that was compact. The ScanSnap S1500 was the perfect fit.
Since we scan a lot of documents where I work, time can be of the essence. The ScanSnap S1500's best feature is the ability to dual side scan WITHOUT having to flip pages. Instead of waiting for 30 pages to run through and then flipping them over, I can get it done in one pass.
The ScanSnap S1500 also has user-friendly features for where you want to put those documents. No longer do I automatically have to save them to a folder before e-mailing. Once the last page is scanned, the options pop up and immediately interface with Microsoft Exchange. You can also choose whether to scan every doc as an individual page or as one entire doc before you scan. Since the ScanSnap doesn't use PaperPort, this eliminates the constant need to stack and unstuck documents.
The only downside for the ScanSnap is the page passing. If you have the slightest wrinkle or hole punch in a page, it isn't uncommon for the ScanSnap to get stuck. However it is quick to let you know you're stuck and even shows you the last complete page scanned so that you have a chance to fix it versus always starting over completely.
If you need office space and a dependable small scanner, the ScanSnap S1500 is your choice.
