The best way to get rid of weeds in the garden is to stop them from growing it the first place. In some of our gardens, we have a weed control fabric down followed by a layer of mulch. In other gardens we just use the mulch either way mulch is a great way to go. Mulch offers beauty, weed suppression and moisture retention to the garden. It does break down over time and need to be replaced or topped off but when it does break down, it provides organic materiel that helps condition your soil. It's an all around good thing.
Over the years we have tried many different brands. This year we used Scotts Nature Scapes color enhanced mulch. It comes in a 2 cubic foot bag and it was a nice rich brown color. Scott's guarantees that it will retain it's color for one full year. It was a good constant mulch with out any added rock or huge pieces in the bags we used. There are no added chemicals in it so it is safe to use around children and pets. We put it down in April and the color is almost as rich as it was when we first applied it. We have tried Walmart's brand and a few other types in the past and the Scott's is only slightly more expensive than the Walmart brand but he color has last way longer and it actually seems to have broken down less. We were very please with the quality and how long the Scott's latest so next year when it is time for a touch up, we will be buying this brand again.
