I discovered Scrabble Tile Jewelry on Etsy.com. This is a site where you can buy and sell anything that is handcrafted. I found really cute pendants and earrings made from the Scrabble Board game tiles. The front of the tile is covered with decoupage paper, designer papers, vintage ephemera (old postcards, paper, letters, photos, etc, ), stencils, handpainted images, and just about everything else under the sun. The letter side of the tile is on the back.
The image is topped off with a thick dome of non-toxic clear resin or Modpodge. Some of the tiles look like glass depending what type and how much resin you use. The outer edge of the tile can be painted if so desired. For the earrings a small hole can be drilled at the top of the tile and a jumpring can be put in to add the earring wires. You can also add another hole at the bottom to add beads, charms etc. The possibilities are endless!
For a pendant ... just top off the tile with an eye pin, or bail for use in stringing your beads, ribbon, or cord etc. to wear as a necklace.
On ebay.com I found lots of these unique pieces for sale. Some are very inexpensive and very affordable. Many of the sellers offer free shipping as well. There are lots of sellers offering the scrabble tiles in bulk. The tiles measure 3/4 in x 3/4 in and are in the traditional light wood color. Available as well are the red tiles from an anniversary Scrabble edition that are a very nice sort of mahogany color.
These are so cool ... I have purchased a few pieces, however since I am a crafter ... I can't wait to make my very own Scrabble Tile Jewelry. Where is that Scrabble game in the basement?
