This is an excellent book for young adults. But although it is for young adults, I believe adults of any age would enjoy the book very much.

The story is set in the days of slavery in the South. The story is about a slave girl, her mother, her cousin, and their cruel owner. The owner uses the woman to reproduce more slaves that he can sell on the market. The babies are torn away from the mother as soon as they are born. He only lets her keep one child- this girl.

Read the story to find out what happens to this girl. I wont say more because then you won't have to read the book.

This book is very well written and draws the reader into the story. In spite of the story line, it is not graphic at all, so parents need not worry about that. I am not sure what age the writing is suitable for, but my guess would be that it's good for teenagers. It may not be suitable for younger children because of the subject matter.

I highly recommend this book.
