The Shades of Green is a resort for military personnel on Walt Disney World propery. This is one of the best deals available for military personnel and families planning a vacation to Disney World. It is located within walking distance to the Polynesian Resort. The rates vary depending upon rank of the service members but are in line with the All-Star/Value resorts at Disney. This resort would be considered a deluxe resort according to Disney standards. First of all, the rooms are large. They are amongst the largest on Disney property. There are 2 standard queen beds and a sleeper sofa in each room. Having stayed at Disney deluxe resorts, I can tell you that these rooms were larger. Each room has a small refrigerator, coffee-maker and internet access (for a fee). The resort staff were very friendly and housekeeping did a wonderful job. The bus system is not run by Disney. The Shades of Green busses run at exact times. We never had a problem with the busses. One great option, however, is that the Polynesian is an easy 10 minute walk. You can use the monorail there whenever you like. The Shades of Green has two pools. One is shaped like Mickey's head. Another positive for military is that there is an AAFES mini mart for small grocery type items, such as water, cereal, milk and bread. The only thing that I can't recommend is the restaurants. We did not eat at any of the restaurants while we stayed there. We preferred to eat at the parks or other resorts. The one negative is that you do have to pay a daily fee to park. It is $5.00 per day. You can also purchase Disney World admission tickets at Shades of Green for a discount. Having stayed at several different Disney resorts, I highly recommend Shades of Green to anyone that is eligible to stay there.
